Plum Flower Creations was created by Meiling Bansee, a marine biologist originally from the lush island of Trinidad, but who currently lives in sunny South Florida with her husband. Her fascination with nature and passion for art and culture has inspired her to create eye-catching pieces that incorporate a variety of natural elements, such as semi-precious gemstone and seashell, in an attempt to blend her evolving love for nature and fashion.
Meiling designed her first piece of jewelry at the age of fourteen during a visit to California in which she spent all of her allowance on a bag of crystals and freshwater pearls from a local boutique! Today, she still owns and cherishes that first hand-crafted necklace that fueled her love of design and creative expression! However, it wasn't until she was finishing up her master's degree in marine biology in Florida, while also preparing for her wedding, that she envisioned making jewelry design more than just a hobby!
"Jewelry design became a passion of mine several years ago when I decided to make jewelry for my wedding day instead of buying retail," she says. "Wearing something that I had created and personalized made a perfect day even more special! It is amazing how accessories can bring together a look and evoke different emotions in the wearer, as well as the admirer. With that in mind, I wanted to create pieces that I hope will lend even more beauty to the person who wears them while also reflecting the spirit and flare of the wearer."
Meiling incorporates traditional wrapping, stringing and hammering techniques into her creations resulting in pieces that are refreshing, fun, flirty and timeless! She continues to create pieces in the hopes of helping women all over the world magnify their confidence and complement their sense of style!
